Mini Getaway: San Jose & San Francisco

Last Thursday evening Ez and I made the 90 minute trek from my family's house to San Jose to meet up with Joe. I haven't spent too much time in San Jose, so it was nice to take an evening and explore a little. We were staying in the downtown area, which has a lot of cute restaurants and coffee shops, plus plenty of trains and buses to keep Ez entertained. By accident we wound up on San Jose State's campus, but you all know how much we love to wander around college campuses, so of course we had to check it out. Ez was a fan of all the sticks on the lawn and that little water fountain (above).

Afterward we went back to the hotel to relax for a bit, then walked to this great restaurant that had pretty much everything you could possibly want to eat, including breakfast all day, yummy salads, fish, crepes...the list goes on. Obviously it was a pregnant woman's dream, and if I lived closer they'd know me by name.

The next morning we walked to breakfast, then it was on to our next stop: San Francisco!
Of course no day is complete without dessert.
We started our SF trip at Pier 39, browsing all the shops and checking out the boats and sea lions. We got so lucky with the weather, it was actually warmer in early March than when we went last July. After exploring the pier we took a long walk to Fog City diner for some truffle fries, which are apparently no longer on the menu. Their regular fries and my falafel sandwich were amazing though, so it more than made up for it. We then took an even longer walk to Ghirardelli for a sundae, which is pretty much a must whenever we're in the vicinity. At least SF makes me work for my food, with all that walking and hills and stairs ;)

After our chocolate fix we checked into our hotel and relaxed for a bit before walking around in search of dinner. But first we got distracted by shopping, because it's San Francisco, after all. For dinner we found a vegan restaurant inside a mall food court. So good!

The next morning we walked to breakfast (donuts, of course!) and then drove to the Golden Gate Park to let Ez run off some energy before the two hour drive to meet up with Joe's grandpa. Thankfully Ez slept pretty much the whole way.

And that was our short but sweet SF trip. Every time we go there, we immediately want to plan our next trip before we've even made it across the bridge. San Francisco is definitely my favorite city. There's just something about it that seems cleaner and nicer than most other major cities I've been too. Plus the weather and the views can't be beat.

July 2014 vs. now - had to stop by and visit Johnny!

  4. What a great way to spend time with the family! Like always, a fun family trip doesn't necessarily have to be taken miles away from home. It all comes down to how special the moment was. To be honest, I think you, Ez and Joe spent it wisely. I love the Johnny Depp photos, by the way. Hahaha! Thanks for sharing that, Nina! All the best! :)
