Weekend Recap: LACMA & Stan's Donuts

This past Saturday night we went to bed with plans to: wake up, eat breakfast, go to gym, then visit a museum. Sunday morning we woke up and the plans somehow changed to: skip the gym, eat as many donuts as possible, and then visit a museum.

A few weeks ago we were watching a show called Best Donuts Across the Country, and Stan's Donuts of LA was featured. Their specialty is a giant donut filled with peanut butter, but those were pretty much the only ones we didn't sample. We both like peanut butter, but somehow it didn't appeal to us in donut form.

Here's what we got:
Some of My Faves: Blueberry Old-Fashioned & Blueberry Fritter, Chocolate Cinnamon Cheese Donut, Apple Fritter
Me armed with a milk before the donut frenzy:
Eat Dessert First! Life is Too Uncertain
The donut battlefield:
Some of These Did Not Survive the Night
Afterward we balanced out the donut eating with some walking (over 13,000 steps that day). We found a little gift shop around the corner and picked up one of these handy head massagers (if you've never tried one, you MUST! It feels soooo good!):
Best $4 Investment Ever!
Then it was off to LACMA. We walked right in, thinking there would be a place to purchase tickets inside. But there wasn't, apparently you're supposed to buy tickets outside. We made it all the way to the third floor before anyone noticed. After that we decided it wasn't worth paying since they wouldn't be open much longer.

One of my favorite exhibits was the huge hot wheels display:

This doesn't do justice to how cool it was to watch hundreds of Hot Wheels zooming around.
A few more favorites:

I think this one is called Family Tree

This Reminds me of Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty

And some pieces that we just didn't get:
A Giant Rock

A Smaller Rock

Leftover Construction Pallets?
We also walked around the La Brea Tar Pits, and then hit up the farmer's market at the Grove.
A Giant Rodent Feeling Me Up

Poor Elephant :(

Gorgeous Sunset at the Grove
To top it all off, we had dinner at one of my favorite vegan restaurants, Veggie Grill:
Joe's Dinner: Carne Asada Sandwich & Chili

My Dinner: Coleslaw & Southwest Chick'n Sandwich

Plus Some Chili Cheese Sweet Potato Fries to Share
All in all, it was a delicious and culture-filled day - much better than our original gym plan, in my opinion.
